The NAHEC region boasts an outdoor wonderland of sweeping canyons, forested mountains, lush meadows, lakes, and streams. Major industries in the region include construction, education/health services, goods producing, government, mining, professional/business services, public administration, and retail trade. The area is home to several Native American tribes.

The WAHEC region shares a border sector with Mexico that stretches westward more than 350 miles from the eastern edge of Cochise County, along Santa Cruz and Pima counties and the Tohono O'odam Nation.

The GVAHEC region comprises the growing Phoenix-metro area, which includes many medically underserved and vulnerable populations. Like many other communities in Arizona, several localities within and outside the sprawling urban boundaries lack ready access to affordable healthcare. The region is home to a developing high-tech enterprise as well as manufacturing and agricultural industries and many other economically viable ventures.
