The Eastern Arizona AHEC´s service region includes Gila, Graham, Greenlee, and the southeastern portion of Pinal County. This service region is rich in western history, copper mining, and ranching. EAHEC´s service region is in the upper Sonoran Desert . This area is full of mountains, lakes, rivers, and canyons decorated by cacti, mesquite trees, Palo Verde trees, and wildflowers. EAHEC´s service region has a culturally diverse population which includes the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. The EAHEC office is located in Globe, AZ which is 90 miles east of Phoenix and 100 miles north of Tucson. Globe is located in the heart of Arizona´s magnificent Tonto National Forest and is surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountain vistas in the Southwest. It has a colorful history, punctuated by mining discoveries and is named for a globe-shaped piece of pure silver found nearby. The mining and ranching economic base is still a major factor in the city´s economy. Eastern Arizona AHEC along with the other 4 AHEC´s across Arizona are primarly funded through the Arizona state lottery. Eastern Arizona AHEC connects k-12 students to health careers, health professionals to communities, and communities to health prevention and promotion activities.
