The SEAHEC Nogales and Rio Rico High School Health Career Club students that were trained in the "Asthma Open Airways Program" gave asthma education to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade elementary students at Mountain View Elementary and AJ Mitchell School. The elementary students were taught how to manage their asthma and learned about the importance of keeping healthy by following a good nutritional diet and exercise. This curriculum developed by the American Lung Association includes a 6 session workshop that instructs elementary students with asthma how to feel better about themselves. At the end of the 6th session, SEAHEC celebrated with a graduation party and certificates were given to the elementary students who participated.

Visionary Interprofessional Health Sciences Training in Arizona-this pilot program for cross cultural & interprofessional training was based on the model developed through the Nuestra Comunidad, Nuestra Salud Project which trained health professions students in Nogales, AZ for 12 years. Key characeristics of that project were the collaboration between health sciences faculty & community-based practitioners,a focus on innovation, an empahsis on community health & prevention, and that all students, regardless of profession, participated in the community health activities. <lightbox name="vihsta">
During the summer of 2008 14 students representing nursing, public health, pharmacy & medicine, lived in Nogales, AZ for 5-6 weeks where they surveyed the community for resources for senior citizens 8 other students were located in Chinle, AZ where they conducted their own surveys.
The photo was taken in front of a produce warehouse located on the edge of Nogales. The students had a tour where they learned how important the produce industry is to Santa Cruz County.
They also had a tour of a factory in Nogales, Sonora where they visited the on-site medical clinic that is run by the public hospital.

SEAHEC Health Career Club students went on a tour to the AT Still University in Mesa, Arizona. 30 students from Nogales went on October 24, 2008 and 40 students from Rio Rico High school went on November 19,2008. They went to various presentations around the university. Some of the presentations they attended were Audiology, Physician Assistant, MD, DO, Chiropractor, Dentist, learned how to take blood pressure, got to see the advanced technology now being used in these areas and much more. One of the highlights the students had was they got to see the dental facility that the university has that take patients on a sliding fee schedule plus some even got to see a cadaver. Also all the presenters are current students at the AT Still University that are finishing their career which they added a personal note to the above areas. These presentations where worthwhile and the students enjoyed it very much! Special thanks to our sponsor that funded this trip!
