Becoming a Health Professional
"Growing Our Own"
The Arizona AHEC Program works in collaboration with K-12 school districts, community colleges, universities, public health systems, community hospitals, tribal agencies and community-based organizations to coordinate, support, and implement activities designed to:
- Support young people interested in pursuing careers in the health professions;
- Support clinical education experiences for postsecondary and postgraduate students enrolled in healthcare training programs;
- Offer continuing education opportunities to healthcare professionals; and
- Promote healthful lifestyles and improve access to healthcare.
Exploring Careers in Health
Through our regional, community-based, Area Health Education Centers, the Arizona AHEC Program directly supports:
- Health Career Clubs in many rural and underserved Arizona high schools.
- Summer Enrichment Programs for high school and college students interested in pursuing careers in the health professions.
- Regional Health Careers & Employment Fairs for high school, undergraduate students, and re-careering adults.
- Tours to health science colleges and state universities for high school and undergraduate students.
- Health professional presentations on the variety of career opportunities available in the healthcare field.
- Shadowing and mentoring opportunities with health professionals in hospitals and community health centers.
- Involvement of high school and undergraduate students into community health education projects.
